SAN DIEGO, CA -- August 13, 2021- Californians for Equal Rights Foundation (CFER), in collaboration with seven supporting organizations, will hold a rally on Saturday, August 28th in front of the San Diego County Administration Building to commemorate the 58th anniversary of the historic speech "I have a dream" by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on August 28th, 1963. This special event will celebrate the American Dream against the illiberal attacks from a divisive ideology crystalized as critical race theory (CRT).

Dr. King's majestic speech reaffirmed the American Dream, the conviction that freedom begets opportunity and opportunity begets prosperity. Sadly, both Dr. King's dream and the American Dream are under assault by the propagation of CRT that hijacks our schools, workplaces, military and government. The CRT doctrine, obsessed with race, antithetical to freedom, hostile to merit, and destructive to community, has infiltrated various school districts and communities in San Diego. From a $1.07-billion local funding plan cloaked under "anti-racism" by San Diego Unified School District to CRT-based racial equity initiatives in Poway Unified School District to social justice kindergarten programs in High Tech Mesa, CRT-informed practices are prevalent in San Diego's schools. Against this backdrop, CFER calls upon our supporters, parents and community members in San Diego to rally for unity.

CFER is joined by the National Association of Scholars, Free Black Thought, Latino American Political Association, California School Choice Foundation, San Diego Asian Americans for Equality, Moms for Liberty and We the Parents Coronado, as supporting organizations of the rally. We will feature academics, educators, parent and student representatives as speakers, among whom are:

• Professor Gail Heriot, Professor of Law at University of San Diego, U.S. Civil Rights Commissioner, Executive Vice President of CFER.
• Professor Maimon Schwarzschild, Professor of Law at University of San Diego, Appointed Member of the California State Advisory Committee to the U.S. Civil Rights Commission.
• The Honorable Kevin Kiley, Member of the California Assembly.
• Mr. Michael DC Bowen, Co-founder and co-editor of Free Black Thought, Business Intelligence Professional and Data Engineer.
• Dr. Joe Nalven, Anthropologist, Philosopher and Former Associate Director of the Institute for Regional Studies of the Californias at the San Diego State University.
• Mr. Jim Fabiszak, Executive Director at We the Parents Coronado.
• Mr. Jose Velazquez, Navy veteran and SDUSD parent.
• Ms. Brenda Taylor, public school educator.
• Mr. Michael O'Donnell, public school educator and PUSD parent.

In addition to obtaining broad-based support from our partner organizations, CFER's Rally for Unity is also part of a national coalition to renew and rekindle the American Dream and Dr. King's dream. The coalition will feature rallies on the same day across the country to celebrate the principles of free speech necessary for an open and democratic society.
